The altar crisis ends in relief, it was a witness, not a rebellion, and old Joshua gathers Israel for his farewell charge: be very careful to love the LORD your God, and hold fast to Him.

One of you routs a thousand, he reminds them, because the LORD fights for you. Holding fast is today's verb. Grip accordingly.

Joshua's math is worth memorizing: one routs a thousand, not by training but by covenant, the LORD your God fights for you. And his farewell wisdom is equally precise about the drift: nobody abandons God abruptly; they ally, accommodate, intermingle loyalties, until the snare is set. Holding fast is mostly refusing the small loosenings.

Jesus gives the grip its deepest anchor: to Him all are alive, Abraham included, you included, held by a God whose covenant survives even the rod, as Psalm 89 sings. Discipline may come; abandonment never does. So hold fast today, to Him, to His people, to the witness-altars of your own story, and let Him do the routing.
