Gideon is threshing wheat in a winepress, hiding grain from raiders in a hole in the ground, when the angel of the LORD sits down under the oak and says the most ironic greeting in Scripture: the LORD is with you, mighty warrior.

God has a habit of addressing people by their future. Someone in a courtyard tonight, denying with oaths, will get the same treatment. Listen for what God calls you.

Gideon heard mighty warrior while hiding in a hole; Peter caught the Lord's eye at the exact moment of his collapse. In both, the remarkable thing is what God's gaze carries: not the inventory of the failure, but the future already prepared, an army of three hundred for one, a flock to feed for the other.

The look that met Peter was not the look that ends things; his bitter weeping was the beginning of the man who would preach at Pentecost. So let God address you by your future today. Go in the strength you have; He is sending you, and today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your heart. Answer to the name He uses.
