Moses gathers everyone, leaders, children, foreigners, woodcutters, water carriers, and sets the choice of the ages before them: I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life.

And he removes every excuse of difficulty: the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart. Today's decision is not information. It is allegiance.

Choose life sounds obvious until you notice how daily the choice is: the secret things stay God's, the revealed things are ours, and the word sits near, in mouth and heart, waiting to be obeyed in ordinary decisions. Israel would not drift from God in one dramatic vote but in ten thousand small elections.

Jesus supplies the courage the choice requires: the God you are choosing counts sparrows and numbers hairs; nothing entrusted to Him is forgotten. So make today's small elections deliberately, the honest word over the convenient one, justice and love over performance, trust over fear. Choose life before lunch, and again after.
