Job describes miners tunneling into mountains for silver and sapphires, going where no bird has ever looked, and then asks the question the whole poem was digging toward: but where can wisdom be found?

Humans can extract anything from the earth except the thing they need most. Read today's answer slowly. It is one sentence, and it is not for sale.

Job's miners could reach anything except wisdom, because wisdom is not a deposit in the earth. It is a posture before God. The fear of the Lord, that is wisdom. The most advanced excavation project in the ancient world ends at the feet of reverence.

Psalm 42 pants along the same trail. The soul's deepest thirst is not for answers, information, or even relief. It is for God Himself, the stream the deer smells from miles off. Everything you are searching hardest for this season, check whether it is actually a proxy for Him.
