Ezra told the king that God protects everyone who seeks Him. Then came the dangerous road, and a choice: request an armed escort and undercut the testimony, or fast and mean it.

Faith gets expensive at exactly the point where your stated theology meets your actual itinerary. Today, watch a man let his beliefs cost him.

Ezra's fast was theology with skin on. He had preached a protecting God to the king, so hiring spears would have been a quiet retraction. He chose consistency over insurance, and the gracious hand he had advertised held all the way to Jerusalem.

And when sin surfaced on arrival, he prayed we, not they, standing inside the guilt of people whose choices he never made. That is what leaders soaked in Scripture do. Both halves of his day, the risk and the tears, came from the same conviction: God is exactly who I said He was.
