Israel has a morning-after liturgy ready, come, let us return to the LORD; he has torn us to pieces but he will heal us, and God sees through it: your love is like the morning mist, like the early dew that disappears.

Morning-mist repentance evaporates by noon because it wants relief, not relationship. God's counteroffer has never changed: mercy, not sacrifice, hearts before rituals, and Jesus reached for this exact verse when religious men questioned His dinner companions.
