One command repeats three times in today's Leviticus: the fire on the altar must be kept burning; it must not go out. Every morning a priest adds wood, tends the flame, and keeps it alive for the day's offering.

Mark shows why: Jesus appoints twelve, and the first item on their job description is simply this, that they might be with Him. Tended fire, tended presence. That is the day's theme.

Altar fire and apostleship run on the same maintenance plan. God gave the altar its purpose, and people keep the flame fed: wood every morning, presence every day. The Twelve were appointed first of all to be with Jesus. Everything they would ever do or preach was downstream of that tending.

Your fire has a morning schedule too. Delight, trust, commit, be still, wait, Psalm 37's verbs are the wood. Nobody drifts into a burning heart; it is tended or it is embers. Put wood on today, unhurried time with Him, and let being with Jesus come before doing anything for Him.
