Today holds worship at its highest and holiness at its most sobering: fire from God's presence consumes the offering and the people shout for joy, and pages later, fire from the same presence consumes two priests who treated it casually.

Then Jesus stills a storm with two words and the disciples are more terrified after the calm than during the squall. The God of the Bible is good, and He is not casual. Hold both today.

The disciples were more afraid of the calm than the storm, because a squall is weather and the Man in the stern was something else entirely. Nadab and Abihu forgot that distinction; the crowd on the eighth day, facedown and shouting, had it exactly right. Joy and reverence are not rivals. They are the two responses of people who have seen accurately.

The freed man of the tombs shows what that Presence intends for you: seated, clothed, in his right mind, and sent home with a testimony. Approach God with the eighth-day posture this week, expectant, obedient, facedown when it comes to it, and let Him do His untamable good in your life. Then go tell your people how much the Lord has done.
