Leviticus 13 is a hard chapter to love: fifty-nine verses of skin inspections ending in the loneliest verdict in the Torah, unclean, unclean, live outside the camp.

Hold that ache while you read, because it is preparing you for the gospel. The whole Bible bends toward the people outside the camp, and so does its Author, further than anyone guessed.

Leviticus 13 teaches, among other things, how seriously God's community took contagion and how much the exiled ones lost: home, worship, touch. Every unclean, unclean echoing from outside the camp was a human being. The law managed the disease; it could not heal the person. It was a manual waiting for a miracle.

Psalm 39 stands everyone in the same line: a handbreadth of days, every one of us mortal, every one of us needing more than management. My hope is in You is the only conclusion that survives the audit. Live today as someone whose Healer walks toward the outside places, and be someone who walks there with Him.
