Israel's first battle is won in a strange way: as long as Moses holds up his hands, Israel prevails; when he lowers them, Amalek does. So Aaron and Hur bring a stone and hold his arms up until sunset.

Nobody's arms last a whole battle alone. Today is about the friends who hold them, the wisdom that shares the load, and the God who wins the fight.

Moses could part a sea by God's power, and he still could not hold his own arms up past noon. That is not a flaw in the system; it is the system. Aaron, Hur, a borrowed stone, a father-in-law's blunt advice, capable men set over thousands and hundreds, God builds His victories out of people helping people.

Jesus' two commandments explain why: love of God and love of neighbor were never separate subjects. Holding up a tired friend's arms is worship. So do two things today: let somebody hold yours, which takes humility, and find the Moses near you whose hands are dropping. Bring a stone. Stay till sunset.
