A dying man gathers his twelve sons and speaks their futures with startling honesty, blessing and consequence in the same breath. Over Judah he says something the rest of the Bible will spend its pages unfolding: the scepter will not depart.

Words spoken over people carry. Today, watch what a father's words do, and let the proverb tune your own: above all else, guard your heart.

Jacob's deathbed shows how much freight words carry. Judah, the brother who once proposed selling Joseph and stumbled through chapter 38, receives the line that lights the whole Old Testament forward: the scepter will not depart from Judah. Grace had rewritten him, and a father's blessing sealed the trajectory. Kings, and one King, will come from that word.

Your words are smaller, and they still steer. So does your heart, the source everything flows from. Guard it like Proverbs says, and spend some of today's words the way Jacob spent his last ones: speaking futures over people, children, friends, the discouraged, that God can spend generations keeping.
