Genesis closes with its thesis in one sentence, spoken by Joseph to the brothers who sold him: you intended to harm me, but God intended it for good, the saving of many lives.
And Matthew reaches its hinge with a question Jesus still asks every reader personally: who do you say I am? Two summits in one day. Climb both slowly.
Joseph's sentence and Peter's confession belong together. You intended harm; God intended good, that is providence. You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God, that is the Person providence was always carrying toward us. A basket on the Nile, a coffin full of promise, a cross Peter tried to cancel: God's good intentions run right through what looks like disaster.
So answer the question yourself today, out loud if you can. Who do you say He is? Everything else, how you read your history, how you face your Egypt, whether you can forgive your brothers, flows downstream from that confession. Say it, then take up whatever cross comes with it. He meant it all for good.
