A murderer-turned-shepherd, decades into hiding, walks toward a bush that burns without burning up, and the ground under his sandals goes holy.

There God speaks the deepest of names: I AM WHO I AM. Whatever you are hiding from, or hiding in, come stand near the fire today. God recruits from the wilderness more often than the palace.

God introduced Himself to Moses with verbs before the name: I have seen, I have heard, I am concerned, I have come down. The bush was not the miracle; the attention was. Israel had been groaning for decades under quota and whip, and heaven had missed nothing.

Psalm 22 shows how far down 'I have come down' finally goes: into forsakenness itself, pierced hands, divided garments, the Son praying David's darkest line so no one else's darkest line would go unaccompanied. The I AM sees your misery too. He is not gathering information. He is already on His way.
