At midnight, after four hundred and thirty years, Israel walks out of Egypt with bread dough still unrisen on their shoulders. God's first command to free people is striking: remember this day.

In Matthew, Jesus rides into Jerusalem on a donkey to shouts of Hosanna, heading for a Passover of His own. Exits and arrivals everywhere today, all of them appointments God kept.

God built remembering into Israel's calendar because freed people forget. The bread, the lamb, the child's scripted question, all of it engineered so that no generation would wake up unable to say why they were free. Memory, in Scripture, is a discipline, not a mood.

Matthew's Jerusalem scenes show where the remembering was always headed: the true Lamb arriving at Passover, praised by children, on Zechariah's donkey. So build your own memorials. Tell the story of what God brought you out of, to your kids, your friends, yourself, until Hosanna is your reflex. This day, too, will be worth remembering.
