Babel and the Beatitudes are both answering the same question: what makes a life significant? Babel's answer is altitude, make a name, build something they can see for miles. Jesus' answer is poverty of spirit, mercy, purity, peacemaking, a list with no tower in it. And Abram's whole story starts when he lets God do the name-making.
Most of us have a small Babel under construction somewhere, a reputation, a platform, a proof. Today would be a good day to hand God the blueprints. He blessed Abram to make him a blessing, and the pattern has not changed: the name worth having is the one He gives, and it comes with a job attached, blessing someone else.
