Solomon asks for wisdom and receives an empire. Paul asks a dangerous question and receives the strongest answer in the Greek language. Both scenes turn on what a person really wants.

Today, watch what people ask for. Then notice what you have been asking for lately. Come to the reading willing to want better things.

Solomon got a blank check and asked for wisdom. Romans 6 explains why that is even possible: what you ask for reveals whose you are. A heart alive to God wants God-sized things. A heart still wired to the old master wants what the old master sells.

You did not read about sin management today. You read about a change of ownership. The question is never whether you will serve something. It is which master gets your mornings, your money, and your imagination. Offer yourself to the One who raised you.
