Buried in the family lists, one man gets a paragraph: Jabez was more honorable than his brothers, and Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, oh, that You would bless me... and God granted his request.

His name meant pain, and he refused to let the name write the story. Today, whatever label you were handed, birth, failure, other people's words, bring it to the God who answers cries and rewrites endings.

Jabez's mother stamped her delivery-room pain onto his birth certificate, and in his world names were destinies. His rebellion was prayer: he cried out to the God of Israel, asked large, and was granted large. One honest, ambitious, God-ward cry outweighed a lifetime of labeling, and Scripture paused the census to say so.

Notice, too, what surrounds him: potters, gardeners, linen weavers, all inscribed in the holy record, because no faithful work is beneath God's bookkeeping. Whatever name pain gave you, anxious, unwanted, too late, take it to the morning altar of Psalm 5, lay your requests out, and wait expectantly. The God of Jabez still grants.
