Peter has gone back to fishing, dragging his denial behind him like an empty net. Then a figure on the shore, a miraculous catch, a charcoal fire, and breakfast with the risen Jesus.

Jesus rebuilt Peter beside a charcoal fire because a charcoal fire is where Peter fell; grace walks failures back to the scene and rewrites it. Three questions did not rub in the denials; they overwrote them, and each answer came with sheep to feed, because restored people are given responsibility, not probation.

Notice also the last correction: Peter, freshly recommissioned, immediately compares callings, what about him?, and Jesus closes the comparison office: what is that to you? You must follow Me. Love Him, feed His people, run your own race. Whatever your denial was, breakfast is ready and the question is present tense: do you love Me?
