A pagan seer, paid to curse Israel, looks down the centuries instead and sees it: a star will come out of Jacob; a scepter will rise out of Israel.

Today Luke shows you where the star landed, a manger in Bethlehem, shepherds running in from the fields, and an old man in the temple holding the light of the nations in his arms. Prophecy has a birthday.

Balaam saw the star from fourteen centuries away, but not near; Simeon held it, warm and eight days old, in his own arms. Between the oracle and the manger, God kept the promise through exiles, silences, and every attempt to curse what He had blessed. His word does not hurry, and it does not fail.

Notice, too, the address labels on the good news: a feed trough, night-shift shepherds, an old man who had waited a lifetime. God announces His best to the overlookable. Whatever your seat in the story, the message was marked for all the people, which includes, by name, you. A Savior has been born to you.
