Jesus comes home to Nazareth, stands up in the synagogue, and reads Isaiah like a mission statement: good news to the poor, freedom for the prisoners, sight for the blind, the year of the LORD's favor. Then He sits down: today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.

His hometown goes from admiration to attempted cliff-throwing in minutes. Grace this wide has always unsettled people. Let it unsettle and delight you today.

Notice what armed Jesus in the desert: not spectacle, but memorized Deuteronomy, the book of a people learning dependence in their own wilderness. Bread, worship, trust, He answered every shortcut with a sentence Israel had failed and He now kept. Scripture stored is strength deployed.

Then Nazareth heard the mission: favor for the poor, the captive, the blind, the outsider, and balked when the circle drew wider than their town. The year of the LORD's favor is still this wide, wide enough for the people you would not have picked, wide enough for you on your worst day. Live inside it, and stop patrolling its edges.
