Deuteronomy opens today: Moses, at the edge of the land, preaching the whole story to the children of the wilderness. And in his first chapter comes one of Scripture's tenderest images: the LORD your God carried you, as a father carries his son, all the way you went.

Forty years, summarized as a carry. Before you read anything else, look back over your own road with that sentence in hand.

Moses does not let the new generation romanticize the past or forget the carry. Every mile of the forty years, including the rebellious ones, was traveled in a Father's arms, and still, in spite of this, you did not trust. Deuteronomy exists because gratitude leaks and memory needs preaching.

So do what the psalmist does: come and hear what He has done for me, said out loud, to someone. Trace your own route today, the fires, the waters, the place of abundance you did not build, and name the Carrier. Trust grows best in people who keep the receipts of grace where they can see them.
