Today you receive the sentence Jesus called the greatest commandment, the one devout Jews still pray morning and evening: Hear, O Israel: the LORD our God, the LORD is one. Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.

Moses follows it with instructions for where the words should live: hearts, children, doorframes, conversations. Total love, totally at home in ordinary life. Welcome to the Shema.

The Shema asks for everything, heart, soul, strength, and then immediately becomes domestic: talk about it at the table, on the road, at bedtime, on the doorpost. Total devotion, Moses insists, is not a monastery project. It is a household habit, caught by children from parents who love God out loud in ordinary rooms.

And the God who asks for all your love shows His own at Nain: He sees one widow in a crowd, feels her grief, stops the procession, and gives her boy back. He daily bears our burdens, the psalm says. Love like that is safe to answer with everything. Say the Shema today, and then live it somewhere small and visible.
