Two years into his reign, under Philistine pressure, Saul cannot wait seven days, and offers the sacrifice himself. It costs him the dynasty: the LORD has sought out a man after his own heart.

That phrase, before David is even named, tells you what God is always scanning for. Not résumé, not stature, heart. Offer Him yours before the reading starts.

Saul's failure looks small, one early sacrifice under real pressure, but God read the heart in it: a man who would manage God rather than wait for Him. The contrast term is the one Samuel drops like a seed: a man after His own heart, someone whose deepest want is God's want, even at cost, even in delay.

Jesus offers everyone the entry test for that heart: choose to do God's will, and you will find out the truth of His teaching. Obedience is how conviction ripens. So find today's seven-day wait, the place you are tempted to force an outcome, and wait it out with worship, like Psalm 108, awakening the dawn instead of seizing the knife.
