Nathan tells the king a story about a rich man, a poor man, and one little ewe lamb, and David burns with anger at the thief, until the prophet turns the story around: you are the man.
David's response saves his soul: I have sinned against the LORD. Today, let God's word do its surgeon's work, and hear Jesus promise that in this world's trouble, He has already overcome.
David had lived nearly a year inside his cover-up, and it took a story to get past his defenses; parables are the Spirit's way of catching consciences off guard. The kingly thing was not the sin but the surrender: no spin, no counter-attack, just I have sinned against the LORD, and forgiveness met him mid-sentence.
Consequences remained, Scripture is honest about that, but so did covenant love: Solomon, the next king, was born into the aftermath and named beloved. So let Nathan's finger find whatever you have been managing instead of confessing. On the other side of you are the man stands the One who said take heart; I have overcome the world.
