God sets Ezekiel down in a valley carpeted with bones, very many, very dry, and asks the question that hangs over every hopeless situation: son of man, can these bones live? The prophet's answer is the only honest one: Sovereign LORD, you alone know.
Then God says the astonishing thing: prophesy to the bones. Today you watch a graveyard become an army, and learn what the word of God does to dead things.
Our hope is gone: Israel's self-diagnosis was not drama, it was accuracy. Nationally, they were a valley of bones. And God's method was not to dispute the diagnosis but to override it, breath entering what was certifiably dead, because resurrection is His signature move, practiced here centuries before an empty tomb.
James guards the other side of the miracle: living things move. Faith without action is a body without breath, the valley in reverse. So let the word do both works in you this week: raise what despair has written off, and animate what belief has left sitting still. Prophesy to your bones. Then stand them up.
