The elders come to inquire of the LORD, and God reviews the whole rebellious history, Egypt, wilderness, land, and explains why He kept sparing them: for the sake of my name, I did what would keep it from being profaned in the eyes of the nations.

Grace has a motive bigger than our deserving: God's own reputation for mercy. That is sturdier ground than your performance ever was.

For my name's sake sounds cold until you realize what the name is: the LORD, compassionate and gracious, slow to anger. God's reputation is mercy, so acting for His name means mercy triumphing over your record, generation after generation. His glory and your good turn out to be the same project.

Hebrews shows the name's fullest defense: blood that cleanses conscience, redemption stamped eternal, once for all. And Psalm 107 assigns the response: let the redeemed of the LORD tell their story. His name is publicized through rescued mouths. Yours has a chapter to contribute.
