Jeremiah hands out the only bragging license heaven issues: let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong of their strength or the rich of their riches, but let the one who boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to know me.

Everything else on your resume depreciates. One line appreciates forever. Today is about which line you are building.

Wisdom, strength, riches: the three ancient boasts, and every modern one is a remix. God's objection is not that they are evil but that they are mortal, depreciating assets mistaken for identity. The single appreciating line is relational: understanding and knowing me. Knowing, not knowing about.

Colossians dresses the people who boast rightly: compassion, kindness, humility, love over everything like a coat. That wardrobe only fits someone whose worth is settled elsewhere. Insecure people accessorize with achievements. Known people can afford to wear gentleness in public.
