God speaks to exiles today the way a parent speaks to a frightened child in the dark: do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.
Rivers, fire, deep water, the promise does not exempt you from any of them. It puts Someone in them with you. Read today's verses slowly enough to hear your own name.
Notice what God does not promise: dry paths. The waters, rivers, and fire are all assumed, and the redeemed walk through them, not around. What changes everything is the preposition and the pronoun: I will be with you. Named people are never unaccompanied people.
Ephesians 2 gives the naming its full weight. You were dead, and but God intervened, out of great love, by grace, into a workmanship life prepared in advance. The One who called you by name also drafted your good works ahead of you. Walk through today's waters like somebody expected on the far bank.
