Zion says the unsayable today: the LORD has forsaken me, the Lord has forgotten me. And God answers with the fiercest maternal image in Scripture: can a mother forget her nursing child? Even if she could, I will not forget you.

Engraved is a deliberate word. Not written, which fades, not remembered, which lapses, but cut in, the way scars stay. Zion's accusation of forgetfulness gets answered with permanent marks on God's own hands, and centuries later, a resurrected Christ showed a doubting disciple exactly that.
Forgive as God in Christ forgave you, Paul writes, and now you know the measurements: mother-love exceeded, palms engraved, a face set like flint toward your rescue. People secured like that can afford to put off the old self. There is no forgetting to protect against anymore.
