Isaiah ends September at full brightness: arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD rises upon you. Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn.

And Paul, in a Roman prison, writes the humility hymn of the ages. Glory and lowliness, it turns out, were never opposites. They were the same road.

Arise and shine is not a command to generate light. Your light has come, the glory rises on you, and reflection is the whole assignment. Moons do not strain. They face the sun. The nations stream toward brightness that borrowed everything.

Philippians 2 charts how the Light arrived: downward, nothing-ward, servant-shaped, obedient to a cross, and therefore exalted. So the shining life and the humble life are one life. Take the crown of beauty He trades for your ashes, then carry it low, like stars that never once mention themselves.
